LUDHIANA: The Greater Ludhiana Area Development Authority (Glada) carried out a demolition drive on Tuesday during which it partially razed an unauthorised colony. Having taken advantage of a licensed colony-Canal View Enclave, Brahman Majra village, a developer had developed land in its close vicinity into an unauthorised colony by taking illegal access from the former.
Glada’s demolition drive was strongly opposed by the locals at the site on account of their recently applied NoCs for their plots/buildings. Prayers were made to consider their representation despite the failure of the violating coloniser or the plot owners to present their case against notices served by Glada earlier under the provisions of the Punjab Apartment and Property Regulation Act (PAPRA).
Whereas the said applications were being considered, in public interest, for the time being, a partial demolition was under taken by Glada for stalling the unauthorised growth, without due permission.
However, further action shall be taken against the said unauthorised colony as per the provisions of the PAPRA Act after scrutinising their applications. As per officials, criminal action against the coloniser is already underway. They appealed to the public to avoid obstruction in govt action, failing which legal action shall be initiated against the violators.
Glada chief administrator Sandeep Rishi appealed to general public not to purchase property/plots/buildings in unauthorised colonies. The list of approved and regularised colonies, along with their sanctioned maps is available on the official website of Glada, which may be checked by the prospective buyers before buying any property, he said.
Glada additional chief administrator Ojasvi said besides undertaking a demolition campaign, Glada also recommended the tehsildars concerned to not register plots in these unauthorised colonies.
