BHOPAL: 109 homes were razed on the second day of implementation of NGT order at Bhadbhada basti here on Thursday. District administration, police and civic body continued to monitor the situation. On Wednesday, a drive was launched to evict 386 families from the Upper Lake green belt.
Action to remove encroachments from the area continued during the day with removal of 109 encroachments on the second day, according to Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC). Bhopal Police Commissioner Harinarayanchari Mishra, Bhopal collector Kaushalendra Vikram Singh, BMC commissioner Frank Noble along with ADM Harendra Narayan and others were present at the demolition zone.
The move to demolish structures within 50 metres of the green belt is in compliance with the orders given by the National Green Tribunal (NGT).
Process of removing encroachments alongside Bhadbhada dam area on the banks of the Upper Lake began at 7 am on Thursday. A large number of residents themselves vacated their houses, officials claimed.
JCB was used to raze houses and structures. In two days, around 140 of the 386 structures have been torn to the ground.
Administration once again claimed it provided full support to the displaced residents with re-settlement along with food and other necessary arrangements.
“The process of removing the remaining encroachments will continue,” BMC official said.
Dozens of JCB machines, trucks, dumpers and over 1,000 BMC anti-encroachment wing staff along with fire department personnel are involved in the massive action.
