BENGALURU: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has issued self-demolition notices to 26 constructed and under-construction buildings in Whitefield for violating approved building plans. These structures are in a single layout — White Rose Layout — in Mahadevapura zone.
As part of its crackdown, BBMP identified 70 buildings in the layout and demanded that the owners submit their approved plans. Of the 30 plans received, 26 were found to be in violation, encompassing unauthorised additional floors and failure to adhere to setbacks.
Town planning committee officials have affixed notices on the buildings, citing the violations and granting a 15-day window for owners to self-demolish the non-compliant sections. Failure to act within this period will prompt BBMP to serve two more notices, each giving an additional 15-day window, following which the buildings will be razed.
Owners of 40 out of 70 buildings have yet to submit their building plans, potentially facing legal consequences for illegal construction. The absence of online records for some older buildings complicates matters, with the officials now searching their record rooms for plan approvals. “If we don’t find any approval documents with us and if the owner fails to produce them, those buildings will be considered illegal,” an official said.
The affected buildings predominantly function as paying guest accommodations, with most exceeding the approved height restrictions. PG owners have acknowledged the BBMP orders, expressing assurance from building owners to address the issue promptly. However, the future of these structures remains uncertain as the civic body intensifies efforts to enforce building regulations in Whitefield.
