SECUNDERABAD: Over 5,000 properties which have not been assessed due to various reasons, now will get entry into Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) tax wing records for the next fiscal year property tax assessment.
Recently, SCB engineering wing transferred the data of these over 5,000 properties to SCB tax wing, to consider as official property and update the records. “Data has been received on these 5,000 unassessed properties in all eight SCB wards and soon plan of action will be chalked out and their credentials will be verified,” sources of tax wing told TOI.
A marathon exercise has been conducted by SCB officials on property identification through ‘drone’ survey under Survey of Villages and Mapping with Improvised Technology in Village Areas (Svamitva) programme, aimed at counting every property.
It took SCB almost a year to complete the drone survey. After compiling the data, they did a door-to-door survey to find out missed and un-assessed properties.
SCB will urge the property owners to produce all the document proofs to get authenticity on the unassessed properties. “Later, ‘property tax identification numbers’ would be allotted. Once the PTIN is allotted, assessment will be carried out every year. Demand notices will be raised and then property tax will be collected,” said sources.
The addition of 5,000 unassessed properties will boost revenue in property tax, an official said. “The department is expecting another 3 to 5 crore in tax, in addition to existing property tax of 35 crore to 40 crore per annum,” he added.
