AHMEDABAD: The revenue committee of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Wednesday deliberated on imposing a fee for transferring names on property tax records of new commercial and residential units.
However, no decision was taken in this regard, said an AMC official.
Previously, builders sold properties before obtaining Building Use (BU) permission, and the AMC registered the buyer’s name in property tax records without charging any fees.
The new proposal by the revenue committee suggested that the builder’s or their company’s name must first appear on the property tax bill. A mandatory name transfer fee would be charged from the buyer when he or she registers the property.
A senior AMC official said, “The AMC assesses property tax after granting BU permission in new residential schemes. Previously, the buyer’s name was entered without charging a name transfer fee. However, during Wednesday’s discussion, it was stated that after BU permission, the builder’s name should be entered in the property tax bill for all flats or properties first. The buyer’s name should be entered after the sale deed is registered, allowing AMC to collect a name transfer fee on each property.”
Aniruddhsinh Zala, who chaired the revenue committee, confirmed the development. “After granting BU permission in new residential schemes, it has been decided to enter the builder’s name in every property. The revenue committee will pass a resolution on this matter soon.”
