The BDA has written to Bescom requesting it not to provide power connections to buildings being constructed in unauthorized layouts in 36 villages near Bengaluru.

BDA told Bescom that it is planning to expand Shivarama Karanth Layout in 12 villages in Yelahanka taluk and one in Bengaluru North taluk. It is also planning to develop a new layout in 23 villages — two in Yelahanka taluk, 14 in Bengaluru East taluk, and seven in Hoskote taluk — soon.

BDA said it has noticed that several unauthorized layouts are coming up in these 36 villages and some people have started constructing buildings. It will be a major hurdle for BDA’s intention to expand Shivarama Karanth

Layout and develop the new one if these new illegal constructions get power connections. So, it has requested Bescom not to give new connections to the buildings that are coming in the layouts formed “without any plan approvals from the competent planning authorities”. BDA also furnished details of the villages to Bescom.

However, Mahesh, a resident of Chikkabanavara, said several individuals and small real estate firms have formed layouts in these areas after converting agricultural lands for residential use. Poor and middle-class people who’ve purchased plots will suffer if Bescom entertains BDA’s request.
