BENGALURU: Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has issued a preliminary notification to acquire about 143 properties, including 94 buildings, to widen a 2.4-km stretch of Gunjur-Varthur Main Road.
All the properties identified for acquisition are situated in Gunjur village.
According to sources, the civic body will widen the existing 30-metre road between Gunjur Lake and Vinayaka Theatre. The stretch is part of State Highway 35. The properties identified for acquisition also include 49 pieces of vacant land.
The Gunjur-Varthur Main Road is one of the 14 roads to be developed as part of the Revised Master Plan (RMP) of 2025. About 25km of roads were to be developed by BBMP. A few months ago, the civic body initiated the acquisition of 25 properties to widen the road linking ORR to Yamaluru Kodi.
According to BBMP officials, the land will be acquired by paying transferable development rights. The Palike will start the road-widening project soon after land acquisition is completed. The road widening will help ease traffic congestion in the locality, especially in Gunjur and Varthur.
Jagadish Reddy, a resident of Mahadevapura zone, said the widening of this road will help the public reach Varthur and Gunjur with less traffic. He added locals prefer cash compensation.
The land acquisition notification issued on Nov 19 informed the landowners and other interested persons to submit their claims along with copies of the relevant documents, including property documents, tax receipts, and revenue documents, within a month’s time from the day of publishing the notification.
