Bengre Residents Demand Title Deeds, Real Estate News, ET RealEstate

MANGALURU: Residents of Bengre (ward No.60) and Panambur Bengre (ward No.11) in Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) limits complained that they have been facing several hurdles to avail title deeds for their land for the last several years.

DYFI, in a memorandum submitted to the tahsildar of Mangaluru, said that elected representatives during the 2018 and 2023 assembly elections distributed incomplete title deeds to residents. As a result, they are still struggling to get original title deeds.

DYFI president BK Imthiyaz and district joint secretary Tayyub Bengre said about 944 title deeds were distributed in 1993-94. During the distribution of title deeds in 2023, all the 944 title deeds were collected, and the people’s representatives promised to provide survey numbers and other details for the old title deeds. However, only a few families have received title deeds with survey numbers and other details so far. Also, those who have received the title deeds with survey numbers could not get khata so far. Those who possessed old title deeds have faced injustice without getting survey numbers for the land, they said.

Imthiyaz said, “Officials are citing various legal hurdles when residents apply for khata for the title deeds distributed in 2023. Officials have not taken any steps to distribute khata for the old title deeds. Further, they are following delaying tactics by denying khata. The government should solve the issue at the earliest.”

Demanding the Dakshina Kannada district administration to initiate steps to distribute title deeds for the residents in Bengre at the earliest, the DYFI members and residents warned that a protest would be staged if there was any delay in distributing title deeds to the residents.
