MUMBAI: Police late on Sunday arrested the director of Srinath Builders, Niraj Vaid (54), from his Ghatkopar residence in connection with a cheating case registered earlier this year.

There are around 10 cheating and forgery cases registered against Niraj and his kin, mostly in Ghatkopar, Tilak Nagar, Bhandup and Mulund.

Police said the complainant had paid Niraj nearly Rs 3.3 crore for a 1,620 sq ft flat in a housing project in Ghatkopar over the last three years, but the builder failed to complete the project in time and hand over possession of the flat. Senior inspector of Pant Nagar police station Rajesh Kewale said they will produce Niraj in court on Monday to seek his custody.

In 2020, Niraj had been arrested by the EOW for allegedly duping flat buyers of a total Rs 6 crore. Niraj and his wife Sapna, also a director of Srinath Builders, were booked under the Maharashtra Flat Owners Act for allegedly taking bookings for flats and instead selling them to third parties.
