LUDHIANA: Continuing its drive against illegal constructions in the city, municipal corporation (MC) took action against illegal shops established on Loh-Langar land on Daba Lohara road.
The building branch officials of the civic body zone-C sealed eight shops which were established illegally on Loh-Langar land near Rudra enclave.
Assistant town planner (ATP), Pardeep Sehgal stated that the civic body had received a complaint against the same following which the shops had been sealed and further proceedings initiated.
Earlier, on Tuesday, the MC had demolished an under construction illegal colony in Guru Ram Das nagar near central jail on Tajpur road and sealed three labour quarter buildings Jeevan Nagar and Fauji colony. Moreover, the gate of an under construction illegal colony in Sherpur area (near railway lines) was also sealed.
Meanwhile MC chief Sandeep Rishi appealed to the residents to commence construction works only after getting the building plan approved by the MC.
Notably a sealing drive had kicked off in the city two weeks ago but it had landed into controversy when MLA Gurpreet Gogi opened two sealed shops in Model Town extension and asked other shopkeepers to do the same. The residents raised a question on the drive as no action ws taken against the MLA or the shopkeepers.
