CM Eknath Shinde, ET RealEstate

THANE: The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (MHADA) must ensure the timely completion of housing projects, otherwise builders will face penalties for delaying projects, warned Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.

Shinde issued this directive during the lottery draw event for 5,311 MHADA homes in Thane’s Gadkari Rangayatan on Saturday.

While congratulating the winners, Chief Minister Shinde expressed concerns over delays in housing projects and emphasized the need to fulfill the aspirations of applicants waiting for quality homes.

Shinde also announced plans to simplify procedures to ensure that MHADA can deliver homes to thousands of applicants.

The CM reiterated his commitment to boosting the economy and transforming Maharashtra into a trillion-dollar economy, affirming the government’s determination to prioritize economic growth.

Shinde praised MHADA and its CEO Sanjeev Jaiswal, as well as Housing Minister Atul Save, for already providing low-cost housing in comparison with private housing. Shinde said nine lakh homes had been provided by MHADA and initiated housing projects for mill workers. He pointed out the Modella mill in Thane. The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana is now extending beyond urban areas to rural regions, with 30,000 homes in Solapur being allotted through a lottery.

Shinde assured transparency in the lottery process and emphasized the government’s commitment to serving all citizens, marking a departure from the previous administration’s policies.

The rules and regulations of MHADA should be relaxed to directly benefit the consumer, Shinde said. “Over the past two years, the government has made numerous decisions to improve basic amenities, including constructing vital bridges like the Atal Setu and the Balasaheb Thackeray Expressway, transforming the landscape of Thane with bypass and other projects. Such projects aim to ease traffic congestion and enhance connectivity, ultimately benefiting residents,” said Shinde.

Shinde also mentioned that the state has become attractive to foreign direct investment. He expressed gratitude to the people of Thane for their overwhelming support, attributing his position as chief minister to their unwavering affection. He concluded by extending his best wishes to everyone once again.

Present at the event were Housing Minister Atul Save, MLAs Sanjay Kelkar, Niranjan Davkhare, former MLA Ravindra Phatak, and BJP Thane district president Sanjay Waghule, along with MHADA CEO Sanjeev Jaiswal.
