Demands for relaxation in the civic body’s guidelines, ET RealEstate

PUNE: Developers in the city have demanded a relaxation in the civic body’s guidelines to control pollution caused by construction work in a meeting with municipal corporation officials earlier this week.

According to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) guidelines, all construction sites need to have 25 feet GI/metal sheets. “Considering the practical difficulties, we have suggested GI or metal sheets of 14 ft height and 6 feet of green cloth around the periphery of the project construction site,” said the Confederation of Real Estate Developers Association of India, Pune Metro.

The confederation officials said that any increase in the height of GI or metal sheets above 14 feet may create hindrance to light and ventilation of adjacent properties.

The civic officials said that the administration was considering the changes, but the guidelines had been formed based on the state government’s instructions. So, making immediate changes at the civic administration level was a tough ask.

The PMC had served notices to 124 developers for not complying with guidelines to contain air pollution. “Improvements are seen at construction sites and developers have made the changes accordingly. We urge all developers to follow the norms,” said Yuvraj Deshmkuh, the superintending engineer of the building department.

“We understand that the authorities have started issuing notices. However, the notices are in nature of precautions and not for stoppage of work,” said Ranjit Naiknavare, president, Pune Credai.
