HYDERABAD: Revenue minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy announced on Friday in the assembly that the government will introduce a new law addressing land registration and ownership. The new law aims to rectify the shortcomings of the Dharani portal, which was introduced by the previous BRS government.

The proposed draft law will be available for public review for three weeks to gather suggestions from the public and experts to ensure it benefits the people.

“The Dharani portal caused a lot of trauma and suffering for farmers and legitimate landowners. They could not sell land due to the inherent defects in the portal,” Srinivas Reddy said.

The minister elaborated that existing land rules from prior regulations and those from 18 different states were studied meticulously to develop the new draft law on land ownership and registration. The intent behind the new law is to provide relief and a more streamlined process for landowners.

This public consultation period is expected to address the issues and incorporate valuable feedback, so the final implementation of the law will better serve the interests of the people.
