COIMBATORE: The district administration along with the city corporation initiated a joint inspection in connection with the Coimbatore Metro Rail Project on Wednesday. Members of the highway department, Metro Rail project and a member of Parliament were part of the inspection.
Corporation commissioner Sivaguru Prabakaran informed that this was a primary inspection ahead of the board meeting to be convened on the Jan 31.
The primary objective was to finalize the land acquisition process along the Sathyamangalam road for both highway improvement and the Metro Rail project.
He said, “Sanction of Rs 56 crore for highway improvement project for 3km has been received. This involves land acquisition for 20meters for 1km from Textool bridge to Surya Hospital. This being a case, it was suggested that it shall be combined along with the land acquisition of Metro Rail project to 24meters. It would benefit the land acquisition process for both projects on one stretch. Only to observe the feasibility of the suggestions, officials of both departments have inspected. The final decision will be provided in the upcoming Board Committee meeting.”
He also informed that the national highway department requested to prioritize this land acquisition process for 1km considering the urgency, highlighting the land acquisition for Metro project would take some more time.
