KOCHI: Apple Heights residents’ association, Vazhakala, accepted that they have yet to pay tax dues to Thrikkakara municipality. They said they are trying to seek consensus to use funds remitted by Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) to pay the tax dues.

“We can’t collect and pay the tax dues as it will result in a huge financial burden on the flat owners. We hope to reach a consensus to use the money KMRL remitted at the court to pay off our tax dues,” said MD Varghese, joint secretary of the resident’s association in a press conference on Tuesday.

KMRL had remitted Rs 1.36 crore in the court for acquiring a portion of land from the building complex for developing metro route to Kakkanad.

This was done as one of the residents in the flat had approached the court seeking more compensation. TOI had recently reported that Thrikkakara municipality had issued eviction notice to the residents as the association had failed to pay tax due of Rs 1.11 crore.
