MARGAO: The Goa Bachao Abhiyan (GBA) has raised serious concerns about the controversial Bhutani project at Sancoale, highlighting what it says are alarming irregularities that threaten both environmental sustainability and public interest.

In a letter to the Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA), Goa, the organisation has called for immediate action against the project registered under the name of Acqua Eden.

The GBA has urged the RERA to deregister the project under Section 7 of the RERA Act, citing violations of rules and concealment of critical information.

The project, situated at Survey No. 257/1 at Sancoale, has already attracted over 220 investors, despite facing multiple legal challenges through PILs, the GBA said.

The GBA pointed out to the RERA the developer’s apparent disregard for proper procedural sequence. Parmesh Construction Company Ltd, the project spokesperson, admitted in Oct that while they received certain permissions, they were still collecting data for the environmental clearance — a fundamental requirement that should precede any other approvals.

The proposed development, which includes 685 pools in an already water-stressed village, has united the local community in opposition. The project site, characterised by non-developable hill slopes and forests, lacks proper road access and infrastructure to support such a massive development, the GBA said.

Moreover, the developer’s failure to disclose pending PILs raises serious questions about transparency, the GBA told the RERA.

The letter, signed by GBA convener Sabina Martins and secretary Reboni Saha, has emphasised the urgent need for intervention to prevent further damage to both the environment and potential investors.
