HYDERABAD: The five-storey illegal building in Gachibowli, which was demolished by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) on Wednesday, was constructed without proper permission from the civic authorities.

The building, constructed about two years ago, consists of four floors and a penthouse with 12 rooms, all crammed into a compact plot of just 50 square yards.

GHMC officials reported that half of the pillars in the five-storey building had been damaged by excavation work carried out by the owner of the neighbouring plot. The neighbouring plot, measuring 200 square yards, was being excavated without the required setbacks.

The municipality lodged a complaint against the owner for the unauthorised basement excavation. Subsequently, Madhapur police registered a case against the accused.

GHMC is consulting legal experts on possible action against the owner, who constructed the building without permission but also pays regular utility bills for water, electricity
