GHAZIABAD: The Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation (GMC) will take action against the owners of plots in Vasundhara’s Sector 16, where commercial activities are being carried out on residential floors, especially on the ground floors of the buildings.
The decision was taken after a resident filed a complaint against the illegal commercial establishments.
According to the complainant, the Allahabad high court, in a 2004 judgment, declared commercial activities in residential houses in Vasundhara illegal.
However, the commercialisation of residential structures has not only increased but is also posing a threat to the environment, the resident said.
“It is to be informed that in relation to the complaint letter sent by you, the block office has issued a notice to the building owners directing them to immediately stop the business activities being carried out in the buildings and plots,” reads a letter from the Uttar Pradesh Housing and Development Board.
The complainant had written to the Avas Vikas, Vasundhara Circle 7, requesting them to take action against the illegal commercial activity being carried out from listed residential buildings in Sector 16 in violation of UP Avas Evam Vikas Adhiniyam, 1965, and the Allahabad High Court.
“Vasundhara has many commercial structures, and the housing board has also created commercial complexes in every sector. Despite this, commercial activities are being carried out on a large scale in residential areas,” read the complaint letter sent by the resident.
The complainant also pointed out that apart from causing congestion on the streets, “this practice also leads to a compromise in the law-and-order situation and is a gross violation of the high court order”.
The air quality index (AQI) in Vasundhara, as monitored by the pollution board, remains at an all-time high, mainly due to increased commercial activity in this colony, which was once loved for its greenery and open spaces, the complainant stated.
