PANAJI: Urban development minister Vishwajit Rane said that the GIS-based (geographic information system) survey of properties in four urban local bodies; Bicholim, Mapusa, Pernem and Valpoi has been completed by the department.

Rane said that Kolbro Group pvt ltd, the agency appointed by govt, is currently conducting GIS-based mapping for the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) and Sankhali municipal council.

“With respect to the councils of South Goa district, work order is issued and the survey has commenced in Mormugao municipal council,” Rane said responding to a query raised through a starred question in the legislative assembly by opposition leader Yuri Alemao on, ‘home stays and online booking accommodations’.

Rane said that the property data for the four local bodies where the survey has already been completed is currently being validated and checked against the national information center (NIC) database. “This process will take approximately two months to complete. Once this exercise is done, then the list of authorised and unauthorised establishments can be finalised,” he added.

Rane said that of the 134 homestays registered with urban local bodies, 125 are in Panaji. Bicholim municipal council has four registered homestays, and the Canacona municipal council has three. Mormugao and Mapusa councils have one each. He said no trade licenses have been issued to homestays or online bookings in Margao and Pernem councils. He also added that Ponda, Quepem, Sanguem, Sankhali, Valpoi, Churchorem and Cuncolim councils have no registered homestays.
