MANGALURU: Minister for urban development and town planning Byrathi Suresh said that a house committee headed by forest minister Eshwar Khandre is exploring ways to increase revenue collection in urban local bodies (ULB) through B Khata certificates for properties that do not have proper documents.

“We have prepared a proposal to mop up additional resources to the ULBs in tier-2 cities in the state. The house committee comprising Eshwar Khadre, law minister and myself will study possibilities of issuing B Khata certificates. A report will be submitted to the government soon after the completion of the study,” Suresh told reporters here on Friday.

“Many property owners are unable to secure loans from banks to build houses due to lack of Khata certificates for their properties. Once such properties are issued B Khatas, they will be brought under the tax bracket to increase the revenue of ULBs,” he said.

Jalasiri: Minister takes officials to task

While discussing the implementation of Jalasiri, the 24x 7 drinking water project, Suresh expressed displeasure over not taking up measures for additional water augmentation.

The minister also asked a chief engineer on contract working with the KUIDFC to vacate the meeting hall after he was not convinced by the clarifications.

“The distribution lines, overhead tanks and other works have been taken up under the project. What was the need to send a proposal for water augmentation at the last minute,” the minister asked.

Mayor Sudheer Shetty Kannur said that a proposal of Rs 125 crore for a water treatment plant aimed to drawing additional 125 MLD water needs to be approved by the government for the success of the 24×7 water supply scheme.
