Govt Forms Panel To Look Into Dharani, Draws Up ‘bhu Mata’, ET RealEstate

HYDERABAD: The Congress government, which has proposed to bring ‘Bhu Mata’ land web portal’, on Tuesday formed a five-member panel to look into the issues related to the Dharani platform introduced by the previous BRS administration.

The committee comprises M Kodanda Reddy, national vice president of Kisan Congress; former special chief secretary Raymond Peter; Sunil Kumar, an advocate and revenue law expert; B Madhusudhan, retired deputy collector; and CCLA commissioner Navin Mittal who will be member convenor. The state government said the committee may co-opt collectors or any other officer as per need.

Dharani has been beset with problems since its inception in 2020, with farmers and property owners complaining of mistakes in land records. After Congress came into power, the government stopped almost all transactions on Dharani except land registrations, corrections such as name, linking of Aadhaar, mutation etc.

Though the state government has asked the committee to submit its report at the earliest, it is likely to take a couple of months to find solutions to Dharani problems apart from giving shape to the new ‘Bhu Mata’ website.

As of now Dharani has 35 modules for grievances and other services. But people allege there are many mistakes in the web land records. According to official sources, over 2.5 lakh applications pertaining to Dharani are pending with collectors and CCLA for various issues including corrections, removal of land from prohibited list etc.

Dharani had become a major political issue in the recent assembly elections with both Congress and BJP promising to replace it with a better system. Even BRS had announced that they would look into Dharani issues.

The BRS government had given the contract to a private company to maintain Dharani, but the new government is expected to take a call on terminating the contract.
