PORVORIM: Legislators on Wednesday said govt needs to review the condition of various buildings constructed around 40 years ago under the Housing Board’s schemes.

Speaking during a calling attention motion in the assembly, they said these buildings are in a very fragile state, with families still residing in them. The MLAs called on govt to take action before any untoward incident occurs.

Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar said urgent help was needed to vacate one such building in his constituency.

Curchorem MLA Nilesh Cabral said allotments to families were done from 1984, and as time has gone by since, they now have ownership rights.

A simple procedure will help transfer the documents to the owners so that they can allow redevelopment, he said. Housing minister Dhavalikar said govt will provide whatever assistance is needed to carry out this work
