INDORE: Continuing with the stringent measures against establishments utilising basements of buildings for commercial purposes instead of designated parking, the district administration on Sunday sealed a prominent furniture showroom and three other establishments.
Acting on the directives issued by collector Asheesh Singh, a joint team comprising officials from the district administration and Indore Municipal Corporation sealed the basements of four buildings that were found to be exploiting parking spaces for commercial activities.
The basement of a renowned furniture showroom situated opposite Radisson Hotel, along with three buildings in the Bhawarkuan and Kesarbagh localities, were sealed during the operation.
Indore Municipal Corporation had previously issued notices to building owners who were utilising basement parking spaces for commercial purposes, but many persisted with the unauthorised commercial use of the basements, as per the officials.
The district administration said that the removal of these encroachments would provide ample space for parking and alleviate traffic disruptions in the area.
In a separate action undertaken by the civic body, a bakery and a godown of a supermarket were sealed due to poor hygienic conditions and the dumping of waste in the open.
Building official Sunil Jadaun said that 17 establishments were in Zone No. 13 for construction found in reserved parking areas. Seven shops on the parking floor of the building constructed on Pipliyarav Bholaram Ustad Road, six shops constructed in the parking area of building No. 13 in Vishnupuri, and four shops constructed on the parking floor of building No. 3 in Nema Nagar were sealed.
