AHMEDABAD: An interest rebate scheme has been announced for citizens who have not paid their property tax. The standing committee of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation announced on Wednesday that taxpayers will be able to benefit from this scheme between Feb 15 and March 31.
Under this rebate scheme, the taxpayers who pay their outstanding property tax for 2022-23, calculated based on the new formula, will get a 100% interest rebate. For properties that fall under the old formula, a 100% interest rebate will be given to slum or chawl dwellers paying their tax dues, while a 75% rebate will be given to owners of flats, tenements and bungalows. Owners of commercial property will be entitled to an interest rebate of 60%.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, the AMC’s tax department issued notices to 221 offices for non-payment of professional tax and recovered Rs 17.38 lakh during the drive. Similarly, the solid waste department collected Rs 10,000 in fines from 100 people caught spitting in public. The department also sealed two shops in Chandlodia for dumping garbage on the roadside.
