JDA’s Delay in Loan Application for Jaipur Metro Projects During Election Period, ET RealEstate

JAIPUR: The two Metro extension projects may get delayed invariably after the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) officials had not moved files related to acquisition of loans for these projects during period when model code of conduct was imposed in Rajasthan.

Urban development and housing (UDH) department officials had claimed that although there were no restrictions on JDA officials to forward files related to loans, they did not do that during the election period. Now, JDA had to wait till the new government is formed and a new UDH department minister is appointed to decide on the next course of action.

“The decision that JDA would take loan on behalf of Jaipur Metro Railway Corporation (JMRC) was somewhat illogical. That too, JDA had been given the responsibility to fund the entire loan and JDA had to mortgage its properties to acquire the loan. Till early October, whatever paper works had been done, there is still chance to restore the decision. It’s better the new government takes a decision on it,” said a senior UDH department official.

In end November and early December, the Congress government had given financial approval for the two extension projects – Line 1C and Line 1D of Metro Railway Line 1. The JMRC then signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Delhi Metro Railway Corporation (DMRC) – the turnkey contractor who had constructed the Line 1A of Jaipur Metro.

The Line 1 C extension is from Badi Choupar to Transport Nagar covering a distance of 2.85 kms.

The stretch would have two additional stations one underground – Ramgaunj and the other elevated – Transport Nagar. On the other side Metro would be extended for another 1.3 kms till Ajmer Road (200-feet Bypass) under the Line 1C Extension Project. This extension would add another station – 200 feet Bypass.
