KOCHI: Kochi Metro’s preparatory works for the Phase II corridor connecting JLN Stadium to Kakkanad will get a boost as the state government sanctioned additional funds of Rs 24 crore for the preparatory works from JLN Stadium to Palarivattom.

Earlier the state government sanctioned Rs 354.57 crore for the preparatory works, including land acquisition for the 11.2km long Pink Line of Kochi Metro. But Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) and revenue authorities demanded an additional fund for completing the preparatory works from JLN Stadium to Palarivattom stretch.

Following this the government on Monday granted a revised administrative sanction of Rs 378.57 crore, additionally allotting Rs 24 crore for the works from JLN Stadium to Palarivattom stretch.

There would be a total of 11 stations along the elevated corridor. The stations would come up at JLN Stadium, Palarivattom Junction, Palarivattom Bypass, Chembumukku, Vazhakkala, Padamugal, Kakkanad Junction, Cochin SEZ (Special Economic Zone), Chittethukara, Kinfra, and InfoPark / Smart City. There is no need of acquiring land for Infopark and SEZ stations as these stations would come up on government land. Infopark station would be the biggest station on the Phase II track.

It is learnt that the government has already released a portion of the amount allotted earlier and the remaining amount would be released in the coming days. KMRL authorities said that the procedures of land acquisition and other preparatory works in Palarivattom area would be in rapid pace as the government sanctioned additional funds.
