BENGALURU: Shoddy pothole repair work by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has left residents of 2nd phase, BTM Layout, fuming. Locals say BBMP workers have filled the craters with low-quality tar, making the stretch even more dangerous for commuters.

“While the potholes are not very deep, they pose a risk for two-wheelers. Multiple accidents involving two-wheelers have taken place in the past due to these potholes. This is the reason we raised the complaint with BBMP. However, the situation has become even more dangerous after repair,” said Naveen, a resident of BTM Layout.

Commuters who use the stretch regularly say the BBMP workers filled the craters four days ago. However, due to the bad quality of tar, the mixture has given way to loose gravel. This is dangerous not only for two-wheelers but other vehicles and pedestrians too.

“The potholes were filled by BBMP nearly four days ago and the mixture is already coming off. The loose stones fly all over at high force when vehicles hit them. This is dangerous for pedestrians and two-wheelers that might skid if the brake is applied. The stones are already getting out of the potholes and covering the road. Locals are trying to fix the issue with the help of mud,” said a resident of the area.

Residents say while the issue was brought to the notice of the BBMP official concerned a couple of days ago, no action has been taken on the ground.

“We were informed by on-ground workers that the potholes will be fixed using the concrete mixture, however, the craters are still not repaired. It is a shoddy work done by BBMP,” added Naveen.

When BM reached out to BBMP, they said the stretch would soon be repaired. “We had filled the potholes with jelly and m-sand mix as an emergency solution. The craters will soon be attended to and tar mix will be used to cover them. The repair work will be taken up on Monday and all the potholes on 31st Main Road will be fixe,” said the official.
