LUCKNOW: In the past three days, 15 farmers have signed the agreement and handed over possession of their land to the Lucknow Development Authority, resulting in the acquisition of more than 12 hectares of land for Mohan road scheme, also known as Edu City.

The committee formed by LDA vice-chairman Prathamesh Kumar started the process of signing agreements with farmers in the Pyarepur village on a consensual basis 15 days ago.

Kumar said 785 acres of land in Pyarepur and Kaliyakheda villages had been previously acquired for the scheme. However, farmers in Pyarepur raised objections as they received lower compensation compared to those in Kaliyakheda. In a recent LDA board meeting, a proposal was passed to increase the compensation rate for Pyarepur landowners.

LDA officials have set up a camp in Pyarepur to negotiate an agreement with farmers. The development work for roads, sewers, water supply, electrification and drainage will commence soon on the acquired land, with a tender of Rs 225 crore issued for the first phase.

The scheme will be developed on the lines of Panchkula-Chandigarh and will have 74 acres reserved for educational institutions and 160 acres for green belts.
