Mall Construction Delayed in Ghaziabad

GHAZIABAD: Months after an FIR was registered against the directors of Mahagun India Pvt Ltd and Sparsh Builder Pvt Ltd following a GDA complaint, the realtors are yet to raise retaining walls on a plot dug up for constructing the basement of a mall and then abandoning it.

In July, a portion of the service road of Gaur Global Village Society in Crossings Republik, overlooking this pit on the mall site, caved in, posing a threat to nearby buildings.

Sanjay Jha, a resident, stated, “Even after an FIR was registered against the directors, no action was taken against them. The GDA also did not take any action against them.”

Earlier, an FIR was registered against the directors under IPC sections 288 (negligent conduct concerning pulling down or repairing buildings), 336 (endangering life or safety of others), and 427 (whoever commits mischief and thereby causes loss or damage of fifty rupees or upwards).

According to the residents, the developer had dug up nearly 50 feet on the site to construct the basement of a mall and has left it like this for a year now, which is against the norms.

Residents of Crossing Republik alleged that the developer of Mahagun Millennia has been constructing a mall on a 7,902 sqm plot between two residential societies — Gaur Global and Mahagun Mascot — for the past several months. They also alleged that the plot did not have GDA’s approval for any commercial project. “This land was approved for a hospital initially,” said Sanjay Jha, a resident of Crossings Republik.

TOI tried to contact GDA officials but did not get any response.
