BENGALURU: BBMP‘s revenue officials sealed Mantri Square mall in Malleswaram Friday morning and suspended its trade licence for failing to clear property tax dues for the past few years.

Officials said the mall has accrued property tax dues of over Rs 50 crore.

BBMP has sealed the mall multiple times over the past few years – the last time was on March 16, just a few hours before announcement of Lok Sabha elections.

Civic officials arrived at the mall at 8.30am and proceeded to seal it with the assistance of marshals and police. They pasted a notice at the mall’s entry that reads: “As per section 156 of BBMP Act 2002, read with a circular dated 6-12-2023, your trade licence is suspended and property is sealed for non-payment of property tax arrears.”

Officials claimed multiple demand notices served on the mall yielded no response.

Customers who arrived at the mall to shop and watch movies on Friday, taking advantage of the holiday for Basava Jayanti, were disappointed to find it closed.

Subsequently, they were forced to move to other malls and shops.
