LUDHIANA: Continuing its crackdown on illegal structures in the city, the municipal corporation (MC) demolished an unauthorised under-construction colony on Sua road in Giaspura on Saturday.

The civic body officials said that the coloniser was constructing the colony illegally and had built a boundary wall at the site.

Assistant town planner (ATP – Zone C) Pardeep Sehgal and building inspector Paulparneet Singh said that on the directions of MC commissioner Sandeep Rishi, regular drives were being conducted to prevent illegal constructions in the city.

Soon after coming to know about the construction of an illegal colony on Sua road, the civic body team reached the spot on Saturday and razed the roads and sewer system installed there. The civic body officials warned the coloniser of strict legal action if he restarts construction at the site.

Meanwhile, MC chief Sandeep Rishi appealed to the residents to commence construction works only after getting the building plans approved by the civic body.

The civic body officials also appealed to the public to check whether a colony is authorised or not before purchasing a plot there.
