Global fast-food giant McDonald’s is setting up its Global Capability Centre (GCC) in Hyderabad, marking a significant addition to the city’s growing reputation as a hub for global innovation and corporate activity.
The company has leased two floors spanning 2 lakh square feet at RMZ Nexity Tower 20 in the city. At a rental rate of around Rs 90 per square foot, the facility is set to begin operations by mid-2025.
“The decision to set up a GCC in Hyderabad underscores the city’s appeal as a destination for multinational corporations. The centre will serve as its global hub and is the largest outside the US. It can seat around 2,000 employees,” said a person aware of the deal.
McDonald’s announcement joins a growing list of companies choosing Hyderabad to house their GCCs.
“Our global offices serve as dynamic innovation and operations hubs, designed to expand McDonald’s global talent base and in-house expertise. Our new office in Hyderabad will bring together knowledge across business, technology, analytics, and AI, accelerating our ability to deliver impactful solutions for the business and our customers across the globe,” said McDonald’s in its LinkedIn post.
McDonald’s did not respond to an email query from ET.
GCCs are offshore or nearshore units established by multinational companies to use talent, technology, and cost advantages in specific regions. These centres act as extensions of the parent organisation, housing specialised teams that undertake critical functions.
The company has registered “McDonald’s Capability Centre India Pvt Ltd” with the ministry of corporate affairs.
“McDonald’s is actively hiring for its new facility, including roles in cyber defence, testing, infrastructure engineering, cloud operations, facilities management, and HR. This hiring drive aligns with the establishment of its Global Technology and Operations Team and Global Security Operations Centre in Hyderabad,” said another person aware of the lease transaction.
In 2024, Hyderabad recorded office space transactions totalling 12.5 million square feet, accounting for 19% of the 66.4 million square feet transacted across six major cities in India. Of this, GCCs contributed notably, absorbing 4.7 million square feet, while flex space operators took 1.8 million square feet.
McDonald’s operates over 37,000 locations in more than 100 countries, with 90% of its restaurants run by independent franchisees employing around 1.9 million people globally.
