GURUGRAM: MCG will now register FIRs against those who tamper with seals placed on unauthorised constructions and resume construction work. MCG’s decision, which was taken on Thursday, followed a grievance about an unauthorised building in Zone 2, where despite MCG’s sealing action, the owner broke the seal and continued construction activities.

MCG issues notices to building owners prior to sealing their properties. Over the past year, MCG received numerous complaints about construction activities resuming in sealed buildings.

In this matter, following the complaint, additional commissioner Mahabir Parsad instructed the junior engineer at a meeting on Thursday to conduct a site inspection and file a police complaint if construction activities resumed after the seal was broken.

It was at the meeting that he directed all officials to identify such violations in their respective zones and file FIRs against them.

“I directed the junior engineer to inspect the site and take action. FIRs will be lodged in cases where seals are broken and unauthorised construction has resumed,” said the additional commissioner, who chaired the meeting.

According to the provisions of the Haryana Municipal Corporation Act, 1994, the civic body has to first identify the illegal construction, serve a notice, seal and then demolish the illegal structure.

In Feb 2024, the civic body sealed a seven-storey structure in Sector 39, built on a 300-sq-yard plot. The building violated construction regulations by covering the entire plot area and the owner failed to obtain necessary building plan approvals.

In Oct 2024, during a Samadhan camp, a ground floor resident from Sector 52 lodged a complaint about unauthorised construction on upper floors without approved plans. The authorities subsequently ordered the building to be sealed. The complainant said the govt only approved the construction of up to three floors on the plot, but the violator started constructing a fourth floor.
