NASHIK: The Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority (Mhada), Nashik region, would reserve 555 flats in nine residential projects for the economically weaker section (EWS), which would be allotted to the people under the category through a lucky draw in the next few months.

“The advertisement in this regard will be floated within a week,” a senior Mhada official said.

In Nov 2013, state govt had made it mandatory for builders and developers to reserve 20% flats for the low-income group in residential projects spanning across 4,000sqm or above in cities with a population of more than 10 lakh.

Mhada officials said 1,328 flats in 157 residential projects were allotted to low-income groups since 2020. “As many as 33 residential projects have been completed in the city, accounting for 1,485 flats. Of these, 1,328 flats were allotted to people from low-income groups. Most of the flats in the residential projects under 20% reservation norms were allotted in the last two years,” another Mhada official said.

Mhada seeks NMC policy details on ‘final plot’

The Nashik regional office of Mhada has written to the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) seeking details about the 20% EWS reservation norms for the projects developed on a ‘final plot’ in a town planning (TP) scheme.

The authority sent a letter to the NMC after seven developers denied 20% reservations in their residential projects for the EWS people on the ground that they developed residential projects on a ‘final plot’ that does not come under the 20% reservation norms of state govt.

Mhada officials said they served notices to 90 developers, seeking information on whether they reserved 20% of the flats for the EWS people in their projects. Of these, seven developers informed Mhada that they do not fit in the govt norms of 20% reservation in the big residential projects as they developed residential projects on a ‘final plot’.

The officials said the NMC’s town planning department has been told to provide clarity on the govt norms.
