PUNE: The Mhalunge-Maan town planning scheme announced as a flagship project before the last Lok Sabha elections still awaits final approval from the state government.

The project was launched in 2018 by then chief minister and the current deputy chief minister Devendra Fadnavis. Officials expect final clearance for the project in the next two months, just ahead of the announcement for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls this year.

Early this week, the Pune Metropolitan Area Development Authority (PMRDA) submitted the redesigned Mhalunge-Maan TP Scheme to the state government for final approval. The proposed town planning scheme will come up on approximately 250 hectares of land and was even showcased at Magnetic Maharashtra in 2018. Incidentally, all the six town planning schemes announced by the PMRDA following the Maan Mhalunge town planning scheme are await final approval.

A senior official from the PMRDA said that the proposal was re-submitted after reallocation of plots, which earlier fell in the floodline areas.

An arbitrator was appointed to re-hear modifications to the town planning plan. With the completion of the arbitration process, the redesigned plan has now been submitted. “Once the government gives its approval, the implementation of the scheme will commence,” added the official. Authorities said that the delay is hampering the development of the area as these are slated to be planned areas in the PMR region.
