RUDRAPUR: The District Development Authority (DDA) in Udham Singh Nagar has adopted Mivan shuttering technology to construct earthquake-resistant houses for the underprivileged under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban).

The technique, used for the first time in government schemes in the state, eliminates the need for traditional bricks and reduces labour requirements.

A total of 1,872 cost-effective flat houses are being constructed in Bagwala village across 15 acres for Rs 130 crore. The application involves a fee of Rs 5,000.

Beneficiaries, by paying Rs 3.5 lakh, receive a flat with a room, living room, kitchen, toilet, bathroom and a verandah. Further, government subsidies worth Rs 1.5 lakh and Rs 1 lakh respectively are provided.

Beneficiaries are restricted from renting out houses for the initial ten years. Harish Kandpal, DDA vice-chairman, said, “This technology prevents dampness issues and enhances earthquake resistance.”
