NASHIK: More than 5.5 lakh properties across Nashik city will soon get unique ID codes. The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has already started the process for the same.
Each property in the city will be given an identity code by the NMC. This will help the civic body access all details, including built-up area and other specifications related to the properties, at one click.
The survey is part of the geographic information system (GIS) mapping project. Accordingly, GIS-based mapping of all properties, open spaces and layouts across the city are being done.
NMC officials said this is the first time the properties in the city will get unique codes, and new properties that come up in the future will also continue to get the unique codes.
Moreover, the NMC is also in the process of appointing another agency for the ground survey of all the properties across six divisions of the municipal corporation. The NMC administration has already floated bids for the purpose and the agency concerned is expected to be appointed within a couple of months.
The agency concerned will conduct a ground survey of all the properties and collect the details of the properties like address, photograph, cellphone number of the taxpayers and consumer numbers.
NMC officials said this will help the civic body identify the properties that are in use, but are yet to come under the property tax net. “The process will help us bring newer properties under the tax net and increase the revenue of the civic body,” the officials said.
NMC has set a property tax collection target of Rs 225 crore for the current financial year. So far, the civic body has collected over Rs 165 crore property tax. Last year, the civic body had collected Rs 186 crore property tax, which was the highest ever in 40 years since its establishment.
