MYSURU: The Mysore Urban Development Authority (Muda), which suspended the auctioning of sites for the past year, is poised to recommence the bidding process for corner and intermediate sites soon.

This initiative serves as the primary revenue generator for the urban body.

Muda, having acquired 14 sites relinquished by chief minister Siddaramaiah‘s wife, Parvathi, will also auction these sites, but only after the culmination of the ongoing inquiry into the alleged scam.

Muda has traditionally reserved a series of sites within its developed layouts to be sold at a premium price, thereby bolstering its revenue stream. The practice of auctioning sites at a premium has been a long-standing tradition spanning several decades. However, the absence of a chairman temporarily delayed the auctioning process.

Subsequently, the urban body found itself embroiled in the 50:50 scam, further delaying the proceedings. Moreover, the officers were preoccupied with the Dasara celebration. With the festival now concluded, the authorities are gearing up to resume the site auctioning process and are seeking the requisite govt approvals.

Muda commissioner AN Raghunandan affirmed their intention to initiate the process of auctioning sites to generate revenue. The board is scheduled to convene a meeting to deliberate on this matter and will promptly issue a notification for the auction.

The urban body typically presents approximately 200 sites across various localities for online auctioning. The process is set to commence without delay.

The commissioner clarified that although the urban body has taken possession of the sites surrendered by Parvathi, these sites will not be incorporated into the auction list at present. The matter is currently sub judice and under investigation. Once the inquiry concludes, the Muda board will determine the course of action for these sites.

An officer claimed auctioning of sites is the biggest revenue generator for Muda.
