Ndmc Property Tax Mop-up Past ₹1k Cr, Half Of Mcd, Real Estate News, ET RealEstate

NEW DELHI: New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) on Thursday crossed the Rs 1,000-crore mark in property tax collection for the ongoing financial year 2023-24, mopping up Rs 1,003 crore so far, while Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) crossed the Rs 2,000-crore mark, with figures at Rs 2,017 crore.

NDMC said it aims to easily cross its target of Rs 1,150 crore this fiscal. “We expect a collection of Rs 100-150 crore from government bodies, PSUs and private entities on the last day. People can pay taxes online to save time or deposit cheques at the counters,” said an NDMC official.

NDMC’s total collection from property tax stood at Rs 933 crore in FY 2022-23, Rs 951 crore in FY 2021-22 and Rs 690 crore in FY 2020-21.

“Our property tax, electricity, water bills and estate dues collection counters will remain open on weekends (March 30-31) for citizens’ facilitation. People can pay their outstanding bills and estate dues beyond normal working hours up to 8pm,” stated the council.

People can also visit the receipt counters at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Place in Gole Market (on March 30), Parliament Annexe and Palika Kendra at Sansad Marg up to 6pm.

“We have advised all service users, taxpayers, electricity and water consumers of NDMC to avoid last-minute rush and deposit dues on time,” said the official.

In NDMC, while the list of taxpayers with dues is made well in advance, in April, a 10% rebate is given on advance payment of property tax by June 30 and a 5% rebate is offered if the payment is made by July 31. Unlike MCD, no amnesty scheme or tax waiver is provided as per NDMC Act, said the official.

There are 16,500 taxpayers in the NDMC area, of which 60% are non-residential. The taxpayers include 1,600 government or PSU assesses.

Meanwhile, the offices of MCD’s property tax department — both at zonal and HQ level — will remain open on Saturday and Sunday.

“In the past three weeks, the department, with the help of RWAs, group housing societies and market associations, organised 350 camps in various wards or colonies and over 5,000 taxpayers paid their taxes. All the taxpayers who have still not paid are advised to do so on or before March 31, else action against defaulters will be taken as per provisions of DMC Act,” said an official.

MCD’s total collection stood at Rs 2,417 crore in 2022-23. The collection was high due to the Samriddhi (amnesty) scheme introduced by the civic body in October 2022.
