NGT seeks report on hotels flouting norms in Delhi’s Paharganj, ET RealEstate

NEW DELHI: After 246 hotels and guesthouses were found extracting groundwater illegally in Paharganj, National Green Tribunal has directed Delhi Pollution Control Committee to inspect the remaining hotels and guesthouses in the area and act against all such violators.

It has also sought a report on the action taken against the 246 establishments.

TOI had reported on September 3 that the violations were found during a joint inspection of the area carried out by the representatives of DPCC, Delhi Jal Board and Municipal Corporation of Delhi in August. Of the total 536 hotels or guesthouses, 296 were inspected.

“We grant two months’ time with a direction that a further report will be filed by DPCC disclosing the details of the hotels or guesthouses who are found to be violating the norms of groundwater extraction.

The report will also positively disclose the action taken against those who are found to be illegally extracting the groundwater and violating the norms,” said a bench led by the NGT chairperson Justice Prakash Srivastava.
