NASHIK: The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC), in order to meet its property and water tax collection targets set for the current financial year, has decided to keep the collection centres in all six divisional offices open on weekends and public holidays, beginning from Sunday (Jan 21).

The civic body has also appealed to the people to clear their property and water tax dues at the earliest. Failure to make the payment will lead to confiscation of properties and snapping of water connections.

The NMC on Sunday also issued a public notice giving an ultimatum to the defaulters. An NMC official, while talking to TOI, said all tax collection centres of the civic body will remain open not only on weekends, but also on all public holidays till March 31 to facilitate the taxpayers.

The civic administration has set a property tax collection target of Rs 225 crore for the current financial year and so far, they have managed to collect around Rs 160 crore. The NMC still needs to collect Rs 65 crore by March-end.

Earlier, the property tax collection target for the current fiscal was Rs 210 crore, but municipal commissioner Ashok Karanjkar increased target to Rs 225 crore.

The civic body, on the other hand, has set a water tax collection target of Rs 70 crore for the current fiscal. So far, the civic body has collected water tax amounting to Rs 35 crore and is yet to collect another Rs 35 crore by March 31. “We are also planning to send teams from the property tax department to the house of the major tax defaulters and urge them to clear their dues at the earliest,” the official said.
