GURUGRAM: MCG on Tuesday made self-certification of properties mandatory for residents to avail govt services. The civic body has also directed all officials to self-certify their properties, failing which their salaries won’t be disbursed. Tax clerks in each zone have been asked to self-certify 100 properties daily and submit a report to the zonal taxation officers every day. The salaries will be released on basis of performance.

“Self-certification of the property tax data has become mandatory for all residents to avail municipal services. If a resident wants to avail any municipal service such as birth or death certificates, water bills and reservation of community centres she or he will have to first self-certify the data. This will help rectify the property tax database. Moreover, salaries of the MCG officials will only be released after they submit a proof of self-certification of their property tax data. The officials will also have to ensure that their subordinates also self-certify their property tax data,” said an official.

“It has been decided by the competent authority to make it a mandatory requirement of self-certification of properties in respect of all services being provided by MCG to residents,” order issued by MCG chief Narhari Singh Banger stated.

While several residents said they have been running pillar to post to rectify the property tax errors and making self-certification mandatory will only augment their problems, officials said they are holding camps to fix these errors and help the residents understand the process of self-certification.

On April 2, MCG also made self-certification of property tax data mandatory for owners to execute sale, purchase, lease and rental registrations at the revenue department office.

According to officials, the move would help ensure that data of property owners — such as their names, plot size and address — are correct and the tax bills generated are accurate.

Property owners can self-certify the data on property.ulbharyana.gov.in.
