NASHIK: At least 1,000 building plans are pending with the town planning department of the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) for the past four months.

Municipal commissioner Manisha Khatri, in order to streamline the building plan proposal submission and spped up the approval process, made the online process mandatory and discontinued the offline system. She also transferred the executive engineer of the town planning department to the water supply department and a new officer was appointed in his place.

When contacted, Khatri confirmed the issue of pendency within the town planning department. “We have started streamlining the functioning of the town planning department and have made the online process mandatory for the submission and approval of the building plan proposals. The power to approve the proposals have been delegated to the officials in the town planning department for making the process quick,” she said.

“Now, approvals to the building plan proposals are to be given on a “first come, first in, first out” basis, except in cases of non-compliance. The focus is to reduce the pendency of the building plan proposals at the earliest, and instructions have been given to the officials to speed up the process,” Khatri added.

Before Jan 1, there were both offline and online systems in place for approval of building plan proposals which added to the slowdown, sources in the NMC said.
