AHMEDABAD: The standing committee of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) on Friday announced that citizens paying property tax in advance can avail a rebate of up to 15% for the year 2025-26.
The decision was made while approving the civic body’s Rs 15,502 crore budget for 2025-26. According to AMC, the advance payment rebate increased to 12% from the current 10%. Citizens can receive additional discounts — 1% for online payments and 2% if they have paid advance tax online for the last three consecutive years.
In 2024-25, the AMC provided a 10% rebate for advance property tax payments with an additional discount of 2% for online payments for the past three years and 1% for online transactions.
The advance property tax payments will commence in April and continue throughout the scheme’s duration as decided by the civic body officials. In the next year’s budget, the AMC anticipates advance tax collections to be in the range of Rs 800 to 900 crore, with expected discounts ranging from Rs 100 to 125 crore.
In 2024-25, the advance property tax scheme operated from April 9 to May 31, 2024, with a collection of Rs 770 crore from 5.82 lakh taxpayers. The AMC gave away a total discount of Rs 80 crore.
The 2025-26 budget approved by the standing committee maintains current vehicle and property tax rates without increases. Existing concessions continue, including 70% property tax relief for trust-operated hospitals or clinics in corporation-owned buildings, and similar relief for charitable trust-run physiotherapy centres. Total exemption from vehicle tax for electric vehicles continues unchanged.
