Plans To Scan 8 Crore Pages Of Real Estate Documents, ET RealEstate

PUNE: Nearly eight crore pages of property documents in the state from 1927 to 1985, currently stored as photo films, will soon be digitised and uploaded on the state property registration website.

A proposal will be sent to the state government and department of registration & stamps may seek Rs 20 crore for the work, senior officials told TOI on Monday.

The registration department fears that photo films from the last 58 years are prone to damage and they should be digitised. Similar documents post-2002 are in a digital format.

From 1985 to 2002, the documents were scanned, but the process to digitise documents from photo films needs technical experts, an official said.

“The proposal will be forwarded to the state government and a high-powered committee will decide about the funds to be allocated. It will be put up to the state government in two weeks,” he added

A property registration department official said while many documents could not be saved because they were written down in huge registers, these documents are currently stored in the film form in containers in air-conditioned rooms.
