NOIDA: About 800 residents of The Aranya society in Sector 119 Noida faced all day power cut on Wednesday following an internal fault in the power infrastructure of the society. The power cut which occurred at around 8 am on Wednesday lasted till 3 am of the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday.

While the society power backup, which was dependent on only one DG set, lasted till 2 pm, after that, there was no power till 3 am by when the fault was fixed after pressure from the residents.

Due to the lack of electricity in the meantime, the lifts in the towers of the society which are operational, stopped working, leaving people living on the upper floors stranded. The situation became more profound for senior citizens and officer-goers who had to move nearly 24 floors down to go to work, even as many residents opted to move to friends’ or relatives place in nearby societies. Some even opted for hotels, but this could not be confirmed.

Surender Kumar, a resident of the society who has a flat in Tower 1, 1305, told TOI that the society which has a total of 17 towers is not complete as the builder has been declared bankrupt. The matter has now gone into NCLT. “Now, a new builder will be hired to complete the project. In the meantime, people who have invested in the project, some of them, had moved in due to pressure of EMI and rent,” said Kumar.

Kumar goes, on, “Currently only 6 towers are complete in which about 800 residents are living. These are towers 1, 2, 3 and towers A, B and C. When the power went off on Wednesday morning, it also led to water shortage problems later in the day. In the absence of an AOA residents were left to fend for themselves,” he said.

By early evening a small DG set was arranged by the residents, but that could not last long, said Rishi Kumar, another resident of the society.

Meanwhile calls to power department yielded no results. However, Shivam Tripathi, executive engineer Noida power department told TOI that there was no supply issue from the discom. “The outage in the society was due to internal faults. Their breaker was broken leading a relay damage. The supply was resumed on Wednesday late night,” said Tripathi.

Meanwhile, Nikhil Singhal, president of Noida Highrise Federation (NHRF) 100x sectors demanded a review of power infrastructure of the 100x sectors and expediting work on the upcoming 132 kV substation in Sector 118.

The Aranya society in Sector 119 is a project of Unnati Fortune Group. The project was launched with 2450 units across 17 towers spread across 18 acres. Currently only 6 towers are complete.
