SCB Defers Plans to Levy Fine on Illegal Constructions in Secunderabad, ET RealEstate

SECUNDERABAD: SCB’s key proposal of levying penalties on unauthorized constructions and on deviations in constructions from the sanctioned plans, has been deferred.

As GHMC is already implementing this and earning crores in revenues through penalties, SCB planned to implement it in the Cantonment area, but a civilian nominated member in SCB and a BJP leader, J Rama Krishna, has stalled the plan.

The reason behind moving the proposal is, on one hand, to generate revenue by assessing the unauthorized structures at the time of property assessment and on the other hand, to strictly enforce the law against violators who deviate from the sanctioned plans as per Cantonment Act.

SCB doesn’t have exact data on such cases, but over 60 % of property owners have deviated from sanctioned plans, and thus, SCB suffers huge revenue losses during annual property assessment, a SCB engineering wing official, admitted with TOI.

However, J Rama Krishna objected to the CEO’s proposal saying that if the proposal of imposing penalties needs to be implemented, then the unauthorised structures must be regularised as GHMC has done. Citing lack of such provision in the Cantonment Act, the BJP leader also demanded withdrawal of the proposal.

CM assures financial support to SCB

Brig Somashankar, President of Cantonment Board, informed the Board members that chief minister A Revanth Reddy had responded positively towards extending financial assistance for the development of SCB, when a delegation led by Major Gen Rakesh Manocha, General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Telangana met him recently.
