SRA Rejects Application for Worli Koliwada as Slum Enclave, Real Estate News, ET RealEstate

MUMBAI: More than a year after the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) issued an order to stop all SRA projects and related activities in the city’s koliwadas till work on their demarcation is fully complete, the slum authority in a recent order rejected an application to consider Worli koliwada a slum enclave.

The SRA officials said that no SRA project will be considered in koliwadas and gaothans till either the urban development department comes up with special development rules for koliwadas and gaothans or till the state revenue department demarcates the boundaries of koliwada and gaothans across the city.

Satish Lokhande, CEO of SRA, in his order said, “There is stiff resistance from people residing in koliwada/gaothan for redevelopment of koliwada/gaothan land under Regulation 33(10). The issue was also discussed in the Assembly. The then housing minister and deputy chief minister has given assurance that till the boundary demarcation of koliwada/gaothan lands, no activities of survey and implementation of SRA schemes shall be carried out by SRA.”

Koliwadas or fishing villages are located in prime sea-facing lands across Mumbai.
