PUNE: Property transactions are set to become easy in Pimpri Chinchwad with the civic administration completing the process to integrate data of the property tax department with the computerised system of the Inspector General of Registration (IGR) office.

An official of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) said the residents would not require make a separate application to register their property with PCMC after the data intergration. “It will be done automatically once the data is updated with the IGR office,” the official said.

The initiative would expedite the property transfer process in the PCMC limits as the necessary details would be automatically shared with the civic body’s property tax department through the system. “Once the process is completed, officials at the tax department will verify the data, and property owners will receive a message with a link to make an online payment for the transfer fees,” another PCMC official said.

The official said the transfer fees would be included in the property tax bills, if the owners failed to make the payment online in the given time.

Avinash Shinde, the deputy municipal commissioner and head of the PCMC’s property tax department, said a majority of the citizens did not approach the civic body to register their properties after buying a new property. “As a result, the property tax bills are sent to the previous owners since the civic body does not get the details of the new owners,” he said.

In such cases, the pending property tax dues of these properties become high, and penalties for delay in payment are imposed. “We expect such issues to come down to a large extent with the intergeneration of the property tax department’s data with the IGR land records. Updated details of the owners of each property in PCMC limits will be available with the property tax department, and the bills will be sent to the right person for recovery,” Shinde said.

He also urged citizens to mention property numbers in their applications at the IGR office for easy access to the details.
