BHOPAL: On Monday, a significant operation for the Bhopal metro project was executed successfully, where structures were demolished across approximately two acres of land. The initiative will facilitate the construction of Bhopal’s first underground metro station.

Additionally, Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MPMRCL) has collaborated with a central govt institute for realignment of the approach road and other utilities in the area.

The clearance of structures, predominantly on govt land, was undertaken near Bhopal Railway station, platform number 6. Structures along Alpana Talkies intersection leading to the Railway Station were dismantled. MPMRCL sources indicated that compensation of Rs 1.23 crore was disbursed for the displacement, four months in advance.

A total of 40 shops were razed. Approximately 20-metres of building construction alongside Irani Dera requires removal. The establishment proprietors requested additional time. They have been granted a deadline until Jan 2, according to sources. The operation was orchestrated by district administration with assistance from Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC), Bhopal police and RPF personnel. Traffic in the vicinity was considerably disrupted until late evening.

“Clearing of structures occurred with consent and was amicably conducted. For the past six months, affected parties have been notified and all involved have received rightful compensation through proper channels,” MPMRCL sources stated.

By Thursday, one remaining land parcel would be acquired for metro development.

Bhopal North MLA Atif Aqeel visited the location and engaged with affected shopkeepers. The metro station will function as a major connecting hub for Orange line of Bhopal, extending from Karond to AIIMS Bhopal. Orange Line of Bhopal Metro is a crucial infrastructure project designed to enhance public transportation in Madhya Pradesh’s capital city, connecting major residential and commercial areas of Bhopal.

Starting from Karond Circle, the Orange Line extends to AIIMS Bhopal.

The route includes strategically located stations, providing accessibility to key locations.
